2009 has been a year filled with challenges and uncertainties. No where has this been felt more than in our job market; however, the government has passed several bills to help retrain Americans recognizing that those with more education and training have more secure jobs and higher earnings. With jobs hard to find, it may be a good time to consider going back to school. Opportunity is knocking—will you answer or be left behind?

One of the many forms of financial aid available to college students is that of federal work-study programs. Formally called college work-study, the program is part of a student’s college financial aid package. Once a student (and their parents) fills out the FAFSA form, their financial aid profile will be created. Within this profile, students may receive financial aid in the form of federal loans, as well as funding through the federal work-study program.

As of 2006, one in every eight Americans was age 65 or older. By the year 2030, the Administration on Aging expects the number of people over the age of 65 to reach 20% (one out of every five Americans). As our population continues to age, more and more workers will be needed to help care for and work with this population. When it comes to working with the elderly, there are two basic strands of employment to consider: gerontology and geriatrics.
